This antique French curtain is made from fine cotton lawn, hand embroidered with crewel work - known in France as 'broderie de Cornelys'. This piece dates from the 1850's and it is now very rare to come across this type of curtain that has been embroidered by hand. The scalloped edge runs down each side and across the bottom of the curtain, the top has a straight edge with curtain rings attached.
This single piece could be hung centrally between a pair of heavier curtains to give privacy and a soft light.
It is in excellent condition for its age, there are a few small holes and a patch near the top. The piece with the curtain rings has been added at a later date and has less embroidery and a few rust marks on it. This is a really remarkable piece with a beautiful pattern.
Size: Measurements 1.50m wide x .3.25m long (59 inches wide x 128inches long - the top piece that has been added is included in these measurements and is 30cm deep).
