The Fête du Citron is an annual festival that takes place in Menton on the French Riviera around Mardi Gras. It started in 1934 as a means of showcasing the citrus fruits that grow in the area, and providing entertainment for the wealthy tourists who came to enjoy the mild climate over the winter months.
This year, the 91st Fête du Citron takes place from the 15th of February to the 2nd of March. You can book tickets for the carnival parade where the floats are decorated with oranges and lemons, visit the jardins Biovès where you will find monumental sculptures decorated entirely with citrus fruits. In fact the whole town is adorned with oranges and lemons, there are meditterrean gardens to visit, the beach to enjoy and lots of citrus themed events. A wonderful way to brighten up February.
