This antique French chemise or nightdress has been made from a fine cotton. The initials RC have been embroidered on to the front of the nightgown and the yoke has been hand embroidered with cut-out work flowers . The nightdress has some machine stitching on the front, but the hems and side seams are hand stitched in tiny neat stitches. This beautifully worked garment dates from the 1880's.
This piece is in very good condition, with a few repairs on the back of the neck, but no marks or stains. The fabric and the embroidered sections could also be used for sewing or craft projects.
Size: The measurement under the arms across the front of the chest measure 50cms (so 100cms/39inches in total) and the length from the back of the neck to the hem measures 110cms/43inches, the circumference of the bottom of the chemise measures 162cm (64inches).
Care instructions: machine wash 40C and line dry.
