This antique French curtain is made from fine cotton lawn, embroidered with crewel work - known in France as 'broderie de Cornelys'. This piece dates from around 1920 and the scalloped edge runsdown both long sides. The top edge has a channel for a baton, or add cotton tapes to the top edge and tie them to a baton above a window. Or use it as wall hanging or room divider.
This single piece could be hung centrally between a pair of heavier curtains to give privacy and a soft light.
It is in very good condition, which just a few pin prick holes and some repairs. Once the curtain is loosely gathered these will be barely visible.
