One of the highlights of 2025 was a visit to to the Musee de la Mode et du Costume in a beautifully restored townhouse - the Hôtel Bouchaud de Bussy, Arles in the south of France.
The museum is the creation of Anne, Agnes and Francoise Costa, the family behind Maison Fragonard, who sought to preserve the fashion and costume collection of historians Odile and Magali Pascal. The project unites two major private collections of Arlesian and Provencal traditional costume and is well worth seeking out if you are visiting the region.
If you are interested in the history of Provencal life, then the Museon Arlaten also in Arles is another great place to visit with wonderful exhibits of costume, objects and furniture from the 18th to the 20th century.
In fact, Arles has such a diversity of museums and places to visit - from a Roman arena, to medieval churches and modern art galleries that you really should stay a few days to see it all properly.
