Transylvanian Vintage Embroidered Blue Cushion 11

This vintage hand embroidered cushion comes from Transylvania in Eastern Europe and is a traditional design from that area. The linen cover closes with ties and the reverse side is plain, see the last photo.  The cushion is in very good condition with one darn on the front of the cushion  (see the third photo).

The cushion measures 53cm (21 inches) x 38cm (15 inches).

This style of embroidery is known as Irasos or Hungarian written embroidery, a folk style that originated in Transylvania in the 1700s and is still practised today in Hungary.
