This antique French linen chemise/nightdress is entirely handstitched in a very fine white linen. The initials CR or RC have been embroidered on to the front of the nightgown and all the edging and cutout work has been handstitched. The stitching is tiny and incredibly neat. This beautifully worked garment dates from the 1880's.
This piece is in excellent unused condition. The linen and the embroidered sections could also be used for sewing or craft projects.
Size: The measurement under the arms across the front of the chest measure 60cms (so 120cms/47inches in total) and the length from the back of the neck to the hem measures 109cms/43inches, the circumference of the bottom of the chemise measures 196cm (77cms). On the inside of the hem some numbers have been crudely embroidered in fine red thread - perhaps a laundry mark.
Care instructions: machine wash 40C and line dry.
