This antique French striped skirt known as a jupon is made from a mid-weight cotton that is brushed for warmth on the reverse side. It closes with a tie that gathers at the back of the waist. The initials RB are stitched on the front of the waist band. The striped skirt is a bold red with a stitched scalloped trim also in red.
It is in very good condition with just one mark on the back of the skirt on the frill (see the last photo) . Suitable for customisation or just wear as it is - a pretty skirt. This skirt dates from the late 19th century.
Size: With the gathers pulled tight the waist measures 72cm (28inches) but will extend to a waist of 92cm (36 inches with loose gathers). The hem length is 88cm (35inches)
