This antique French curtain is made from fine cotton lawn, embroidered with crewel work - known in France as 'un rideau de Cornelys'.
The curtain measures 2.04m (80inches) wide at the bottom and 1.44 m (57 inches) wide at the top x 3m Long (118 inches).
This curtain dates from the late 19th century. The heading has some gathers and white tape has been sewn along the top edge. The embroidery is simple and linear. This type of sheer curtain provides privacy but lets light through.
This curtain is in very good condition. There are a few pin prick holes, a slightly bigger hole near the top (see the last photo) and some neat repairs but by the time the curtain is loosely gathered on a pole the holes will be barely noticeable. The hem of the curtain has one section a few centimetres shorter than the rest. It could easily be rehemmed.
This is a truly stunning Parisian style window treatment that is in remarkable condition for its age.
