This beautifully hand stitched vintage folk textile has been hand embroidered with a variety of stitches with silk threads. Originally used as a table cover, this vintage French cloth could also be used to make curtain pelmets, cushions or a wall hanging. It has been embroidered on felt, which does show some wear with pin prick holes scattered about and a few marks. If it was used as a table cover, I suggest that it should be used on a smallish table with the embroidered section draping to the floor and the top where there is some damage covered in books or vases of flowers.
It measures 1.58m wide (62 inches) x 1.95m long (77 inches).
This is a really rare find which comes from the Cevennes area in the south of France. The work that has gone into this piece is truly remarkable.
