Vintage Indigo Kantha Throw

This kantha throw has been handmade in India from up-cycled block print fabric dyed with a natural indigo dye.  Kantha quilts and throws are made from layers of fabric sewn together with a tiny running stitch known as a kantha stitch.  Extra embroidery is often added, and you will never find two that are the same. 

Each side of a vintage kantha is made from different fabric. The first four photos show one side of the quilt and the last three show the reverse side. Vintage kanthas are a handmade product, the pattern and stitching can be irregular and patches are often added to the quilts.

The design on this kantha has been over-printed on to a man's dhoti - a lower body garment that wraps around the waist. You can see the pattern of the checked cotton coming through the pattern in the block print.

Size:  W1.45m x 2.26m (W57" x L89"). This throw will fit a single bed and also go across a double, 5ft king size/US Queen  and 6ft super king bed as a throw.

Cotton. Machine wash 30C.
