Vintage Indigo Kantha Throw

This kantha throw has been handmade in India from up-cycled block print fabric dyed with a natural indigo dye.  Kantha quilts and throws are made from layers of fabric sewn together with a tiny running stitch known as a kantha stitch.  Extra embroidery is often added, and you will never find two that are the same. 

Each side of a vintage kantha is made from different fabric. The first three photos show one side of the quilt and the last four show the reverse side. Vintage kanthas are a handmade product, the pattern and stitching can be irregular and patches are often added to the quilts. There is some wear on this piece but it does not detract from the overall look.

Size:  W1.16m x 1.92m (W46" x L76"). This throw will fit a single bed and also go across a double, 5ft king size/US Queen  bed as a throw.

Cotton. Machine wash 30C.
