This vintage hand embroidered cushion comes from East Europe and is a traditional design from that area. The design is embroidered on a rustic hemp fabric in a red cotton thread and the reverse side of the fabric is a plain cotton fabric. The cushion closes with antique french buttons and is in excellent condition.
The cushion measures 52cm (20 inches) x 42cm (17inches).

This style of embroidery is known as Irasos or Hungarian written embroidery, a folk style that originated in Transylvania in the 1700s and is still practised today in Hungary.
