Antique French Paisley Shawl Throw Large
This magnificent antique French paisley shawl is woven on a jacquard loom from wool and silk in warm orange and terracotta tones. It dates from the late 19th century and is possibly earlier. A stamp on the reverse side of the shawl indicates it was made by a company founded in 1851, and it also has the date 1869 marked on the bottom right of the stamp. The initials A C have been woven into the black centre in white thread, traditionally these were the initials of the maker.
The shawl measures 1.52m wide x 3.16m long (60inches wide x 124 inches long)
This shawl is in excellent condition for its age, see the last two photos for the only obvious holes. If you hold the shawl up to the light you will see a few tiny holes that don't show from the right side. There is also some damage to the border in one place. This exceptional piece could be used folded to decorate the back of a sofa, as a bedspread, it could also be used as a wall hanging or a curtain
Care instructions: dry clean only.
