Vintage Suzani Wall Bedspread / Wall Hanging
This colourful vintage Suzani textile has been hand embroidered with a traditional motif. It would make a striking wall hanging or use as a bedspread or window treatment. It dates from around the 1970's.
It measures 2.16m x 1.41m (85inches x 56inches). It would fit a single bed, double bed or king size /US queen as a bed spread. (The bed in the photo is a super king/6ft bed but I don't think it is quite large enough for a super king.).
A suzani is a large, hand-embroidered textile panel; the word comes from the Persian word suzan, which means needle. Originating from nomadic tribes in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries, suzanis have become highly collectable and valued for their beautiful decoration and fine craftsmanship. Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides as part of their dowry, and were presented to the groom on the wedding day.
This suzani is in very good condition except for some fading on one half of the textile. See the second photo which shows the brighter half at the front of the photo and the softly faded part towards the top of the photo. Also please note that the colours were hard to photograph and although the purple looks quite bright and harsh in the photos it is actually a softer colour.
